Green Bay, WI - July 31, 2025
Dear Valued Séura Partner,
I wanted to take a moment to share an important update on recent U.S. trade rulings affecting imported float glass and how these changes may influence product sourcing and pricing.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has imposed preliminary countervailing (CVD) and antidumping (AD) duties on float glass imported from China and Malaysia, including LED mirrors, shower doors, windows, and frameless mirrors. These rulings are now in effect, with CVD beginning in May 2025 and AD following in July 2025. While the final rates have not yet been determined, the government is already collecting deposits at the time of import.
The newly imposed duties apply specifically to the float glass component of affected products and do not extend to other elements such as frames, lighting systems, or electronics. The impact of the AD + CVD duties is estimated to be around 300% of the glass cost portion based on current rates established by the U.S. Department of Commerce. When combined with existing country-of-origin tariffs applied to the full product value, these measures can result in a significant increase in overall import cost. Please refer to the Federal Register for details.
Thanks to our long-standing investment in both domestic production and global partnerships, we’re well prepared to navigate these changes with you. At Séura, we’ve spent over 23 years building and refining our U.S.-based manufacturing operation. Our Wisconsin facility has produced hundreds of thousands of lighted mirrors using domestic and globally sourced components—without relying on Chinese float glass. As a result, our products assembled in the United States remain duty-free under these new rulings and offer a stable, cost-protected solution for your projects.
We also maintain established supplier relationships in regions of Vietnam and Thailand that are not subject to broader China-origin tariffs. While these sources are still subject to the new float glass duties, they offer added flexibility for specific specifications, budget or timelines. We’ll review each project closely to recommend the best path forward based on your needs.
For pending quotes that may be affected, our team is already reviewing them and will reach out as needed. For new projects, we’re happy to recommend options that meet both design and budget goals. Our compliance and operations teams will continue to manage all documentation, classification, and duty-related requirements on your behalf.
We understand that changes like this can be disruptive. That’s why we’re focused on clear communication and practical solutions to help you stay on schedule and within budget. If you'd like to review a specific order or quote, or discuss alternatives, we’re here to help.
Thank you for your continued trust. Whether this is your first project with us or your fiftieth, we truly value your business and remain committed to earning your confidence every step of the way.
Very best,
Gretchen Gilbertson
